Why MathPath?

Because it is so much fun!!
Fun because you will finally meet many peers who love math the same way you do! Fun because you will learn tons of new and interesting math! And fun because MathPath is a residential summer program with plenty of other activities, too!

Math Fun!

Every week, each student picks 2 courses from at least 12 options. Recent years have included courses about non-Euclidean Geometry (what if there were no parallel lines!?), Fair Division, Cryptology & Codes, Origami, Mathematica, Heavenly Mathematics (how the ancients developed trigonometry to measure the heavens and the earth), Special Relativity, etc. We teach material that is standard to mathematicians but not covered in traditional K-12 school curriculums, such as combinatorics, number theory, symbolic logic, induction, etc. Each student gets significant choice in what they get to study while at MathPath, leading to individualized curricula for each student tailor-made for students to have fun learning math!

Leisure Fun!

Every day there are two breaks for leisure activities such as: chess, table tennis, card games, arts & crafts, music, dancing, soccer, pickleball, etc. Not to mention the chance to hang out with other mathematical kids! MathPath also has off-campus trips for adventures like cycling, walking tours, puzzle rooms, and museums, among other local attractions.

Can we prove it?

Take a look at our photos, which showcase the fun we have had over the past several years. Look through the hundreds of photos that depict MathPath students doing math, playing together, and generally having a great time.

Then, look at our Testimonials page, which showcases the comments and ratings that we have received on our surveys to students and parents in past years. Our archive of testimonials is still linked there, as well, to demonstrate MathPath's longterm committment to excellence and providing an exceptionally engaging and positive program to students.

Mission

The mission of MathPath is to inspire and advance mathematically gifted middle school age students through a residential summer program.

At MathPath, we emphasize:

  1. Enrichment over acceleration
  2. Discovery over rote learning
  3. Rigorous mathematical thinking and communication (proof)
  4. Active participation
  5. Providing a variety of mathematical role models (counselors, faculty, and staff)
  6. Fun, both in and out of class

You don't have to draw, you don't have to calculate; you just have to notice.
